Wal-Mart is officially selling the iPhone 3G for $197… I think this is a bad thing. Wal-Mart must be one of the biggest companies In the world, if not the biggest. I think people can go to their local Apple or AT&T store and purchase an iPhone rather than drive more people to go to the already corrupted and business giant wal-mart.

How do you wake up in the morning?

How do you wake up in the morning? Maybe you have an alarm clock, or cell phone alarm that wakes you up. I prefer www.onlineclock.net It’s a free service, all you do is set the background you want, and the alarm time, and it beeps very loudly at that time. No need to sign up, or register etc… Simply give it the wake up time, and go to sleep.
The nicest part is that it’s flash based, so if your internet connection dies sometime during the night, it will still wake you up!

How do you distribute your videos?

When I upload videos, I want people to watch them. Why would I upload them if I wanted them to be ignored? So, I upload my videos to several websites. Youtube is the main site where I get most of my views of course, but there are about 15 other sites that I upload to.

So , Rather than upload to each one individually, I found a service called TubeMogul. All you do is create a free account on TubeMogul.com and give it your credentials (login info) for all the video sites you are a member of. Then you upload your video one time to TubeMogul and it will distribute it to all of those sites you are a member of.

I tried it myself and it really is that easy… Here is just a few of the video sites TubeMogul can upload to. There are over 20 total video websites you can use with TubeMogul.
Myspace. Revver. Youtube, Dailymotion, Veoh, Blip, Viddler, Vimeo, Break and many many more. This service is extremely easy to use, and you only need to give it your login information for those websites once.

Keyboards

What kind of keyboard do you use? I know many people who still use their standard keyboard that came with their PC. I have never been able to do that. I prefer a higher quality keyboard more suited towards me, rather than the generic device sent to millions of users.
I have had a lot of Logitech keyboard, as well as Microsoft keyboards. The only one I can say I really “like” is the Microsoft Comfort Curve keyboard. It has a nice slim design, the keys don’t click too loudly, the keys are think and easy to press, and I feel like I can type on it for hours rather than have to take breaks frequently due to discomfort.
But what keyboard do you use? If you’re looking for a ergonomic keyboard, I do recommend the Microsoft Digital Media Pro, but let me know what you use, want or prefer. Leave comments on this blog post, as well as the video. I want many opinions on this one… I’m even considering getting the Apple aluminum slim wired keyboard and using it with Windows because of the great things I have heard about it.

Bandwidth Caps

A member of the chat room at live.combs.tv mentioned a few days ago, that he has to deal with bandwidth caps. He lives in Canada, and in Canada the only reliable service in his area is Rogers for DSL. What is just sad about this is Rogers sells internet service in bandwidth packages.

For example, 30GB per month for 30 dollars, or 60GB for 60 dollars etc… I’m not sure if I’m the only person who thinks this, but that is just wrong. The internet is not meant to be limited in any capacity at all. You may ask, what happens if you go over your 30GB per month? The internet slows down to ungodly slow dial up like speeds and you pay per megabyte over your specified amount.

When I heard this, I didn’t even know how to react. I simply could not imagine dealing with that myself, I know I will use 30GB In a week between uploads and downloads, plus E-mail and regular browsing. I could not live on that; it’s just not right do limit internet access like that. If you don’t think Comcast or Cox or Time Warner will do that, they will. They already have in some areas.

Across the world we are starting to see this happening, we have got to do something about it. The question is: What can be done? Comment, rate, subscribe etc… and pass this along to your friends.

First Time Mobile Streaming

Yesterday, I was streaming live video from somewhere other than my house for the first time! My friend Jake and I were talking about gaming, answering questions from chat, and some other fun things as well. This may become a somewhat regular thing; we will have to see later. I simply had to record a video, because it was the first time in the history of "The Tech Guru Show" that I was streaming live video from anywhere but my home.

Internet Radio For Geeks

What internet radio station do you listen to? This is, assuming you do listen to internet radio. I know I do. I get tired of all the commercials and things of that nature of traditional FM Radio, so I turn to the interw3bz!

Flip Mino HD Updates

I have to thank Flip Video for sending me the Flip Mino HD for review. I am very impressed with the product and the quality of it. The Mino HD will record up to 60 minutes of 720p HD 16:9 video. You can watch the corresponding video to this blog post to see the quality yourself.

Cons:
1.5’’ display screen. I would like to see this a little larger in the next version.

Cannot take still pictures without using the software.

Overall, the pros outweigh the cons. If you are looking for a portable, HD, high quality and low cost video recorder, there is no better choice than the Flio Mino HD.

Things to consider when building a PC

So you want to build a computer... but where do you start? This article is my recommendations on how to choose parts for your new computer.

First: Choose a processor first. Most people you will see choose a motherboard first, but I believe the processor is the most important part of the PC, so everything should revolve around that. I also recommend a dual core if not a quad core processor with today’s Windows OS and applications software.

Second: Choose your motherboard. Your motherboard is the 2nd most important part of the PC. Do you want PCI-Express slots? How many? X16, x2? Regular PCI? SATA? You must choose a motherboard that meets your needs. My next computer will use the new Intel core i7 board. I recommend at least 1 PCI-E x16 slot as well as at least one PCI-E x1, and at least 2 PCI slots.

Third: Your case. Your case is more of a personal choice than essential choice. As long as your motherboard fits your case, you should have no major issues. As I said, this is more of a personal choice, such as color scheme and look, and manufacturer of your case. I like the cases that look similar to the Mac Pro.

Fourth: Memory. Hard drives, as well as RAM are absolutely essential. My recommendation is at least a 320 GB Hard Disk Drive and at least 3GB of DDR2 or 4GB of DDR3 RAM. RAM will determine how many programs you can run at once, as well as how much you can do at once, along with your processor of course. Hard disk size is also very important. I prefer a large hard drive, simply because I have over 1TB total of music and video content on my PC. Just remember, there is no such thing as a hard disk being “too big”.

Fifth: Cooling systems. Completely optional, most CPUs will have a heat sink and fan. If not, you will need to purchase one. Serious gamers will typically use liquid cooling. This is again for serious gamers who tend to over clock their CPU(s) and use their graphics card(s) to the fullest potential possible. I have never had any liquid cooled systems because I’m no hardcore gamer. My idea of gaming is a few hands of Poker on UltimateBet.net

Sixth: Graphics cards. This is an extremely important decision for gamers. ATI vs. nVidia etc... All play into a choice of a graphics card. There are so many out there, it just depends on your need. Gamers like their SLI dual graphics cards, where as for me I can live on a dual DVI 64mb card. Again, it just depends on what you will use it for

Seventh: Operating systems. Windows Xp? Home or Professional? If you’re going vista, which one? Basic, premium or ultimate… or even business? I tend to use Vista ultimate more than anything else. When vista first came out, it was a complete flop. Everything was a problem but since then it has improved drastically. There are still those that like good ol’ XP though, or even Linux and that is perfectly fine.

Eighth and last: Accessories. From internal PCI cards, such as TV tuners, to the choice of keyboards and speakers, there are a million and one accessories you could buy. I like to use TV tuners and expensive sound systems, but it’s really not necessary. Webcams, microphones, USB hubs, printers etc… are all choices you have to decide on what to buy. I much prefer building my own PC to buying one already made, and I hope I have helped you in your decision, or at least taught you something from this article. Synergy Virtual KVM

Back when I first started my show, I had 4 computers here on my desk. Which meant 4 keyboards, and 4 mice. But how do you get rid of that and share 1 keyboard and 1 mouse?

There are 2 basic ways to do that. You could buy a KVM switch, which can be somewhat expensive, or you can use Synergy. Synergy is a cross-platform virtual KVM that allows you to share your keyboard and mouse between several computers connected to the same router.

They also claim it does not work on Vista.. but it does :)

How do you increase youtube views?

How do you get more views on your youtube videos? There are many ways you could do this. You could add a lot of friends, and send them your videos, or you could subscribe to people in hopes that they would subscribe back and watch your videos. You could also buy views. I have discussed buying views in more than one of my previous videos, but i discovered one service that just blew my mind when I saw their prices. 1,000 views for $1.00! How do you search for things online?

How do you search for things online? Maybe you use Google, or Yahoo or another similar search engine. Typically when you search for something, you will either only get website results, or only image results etc...

A member of the chat room last night told me about MSE360. MSE360 is a comprehensive search engine that will show you Web results, Images, Blog results, and even wikipedia results all on one organized page. I was very surprised with the search results when I searched for “Dylan Combs” (my name), because MSE360 indexed my websites, my blog and my picture. Although the top result for “Dylan Combs” was my Geeks profile... I

How do you search for torrents?

Do you download anything from torrents? If you do, hopefully its legal. But, how do you search for your torrents? You could go to Isohunt or BTJunkie or some other similar website, but a friend of mine, Casey from CAG101.com passed this along to me. It's called Bit Che, It's a free program that will search over 60 torrent sites and give you the best search results. But, every year it seems like the products are gone before I even get there... so how do people do this? How do you find out about the deals before everyone else?

Well, you could go to www.bfads.net BFAds is all about Black Friday leaked ads. You can view leaked ads weeks and days before they are released to the public, the only problem is, well, how can you be sure if the ads are legit or not?

It may be taking a small risk, but www.bfads.net is worth taking a look at. It is updated several times daily, specifically more and more the closer we get to turkey day!

IRC- Internet Relay Chat IRC can be used for many things. including the chat at www.ustream.tv.

When you enter a live show, the chat room is IRC based. The nice thing about IRC, is you can connect to it with many 3rd party programs and applications, be in multiple rooms at once all with ease. Ustream wants to get rid of IRC. If you are someone who is a regular user of Ustream, this should concern you. The site will lose many regulars on the major shows. Chris Pirillo, The Tech Buzz, Whoknewtech, Zane Savage, all need IRC for their chat. My main concern, is that ustream will become “just another streaming site” if IRC is gone. Many users like to connect to their favorite ustream show’s IRC chat with their own program, rather than use a browser based application. Please help SAVE IRC!! Email support@ustream.tv and tell them we want IRC chat on ustream! Ustream is one of the best websites I have had the pleasure of using, and the most well know video streaming site. If IRC is gone, it will severely impact Ustream, in a negative way.

Digital TV 2009

As of February 2009, those of you watching analog TV will see nothing but fuzz. That's when you will need a digital signal converter box, unless of course you have cable. Even though I do have cable, I bought one anyway to unbox on the show. I must say, I was happy with the quality of Digital TV after trying this out with an old antenna, It also offers HD signal for those of you with HD TV's.

Digsby Software Review

What messengers do you use? Personally, I use Windows Live, Yahoo, AIM,and GoogleTalk. So, rather than have 4 separate messenger clients running at once, I was looking for a good all-in-one messenger.

There are several of these available, and I tried 3 of them. The best one that I could find was Digsby. Digsby. Digsby allows you to be logged in to AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber all in the same program Also, It will alert you when you have new e-mail with its unique e-mail alert feature. And if that wasn't enough you can view and post Twitter updates, Myspace updates, Facebook updates and more!

This does not replace individual messengers for the fact that webcam and voice chat are not supported, and some other features are missing. But it does allow ease of access to all your favorite messengers at once, email, and social networks all in one program. You can find out more and try it for yourself at www.digsby.com.

Flash Drive Apps

Do you have a flash drive? Is it at least 1GB? If you do, what do you use it for?
You could use it for many things. Saving documents, music, movies, programs and more. You could also make it bootable, and install a Linux disro on your PC.

Office Suite

Do you use an office suite? When you want to type out a document, or create a spreadsheet, how do you do it? You could use Microsoft Office 2003 or Microsoft Office 2007 and it would get the job done easily. But, what if you don't have it, and can't afford to pay for it?

You may have heard of OpenOffice, I sure have for a long time. I never gave it a though though, I always had Microsoft Office. I recently decided to try it, and I was blown away. It is very similar to Microsoft Office, and works the same way. The OpenOffice suite has a lot of useful applications

Well, There are many ways to do it. You could use a website like www.KeepVid.com which will do the job. However, I really don't like to have to go to the website every time I want to download a YouTube video. I would much rather have A simple, easy to use application on my computer to do the same thing.

So, most people think that the Mac OS X only runs on a Mac computer. Well, that's not true anymore. Since Mac has switched to the Intel platform, It is now possible to run Mac OS X on your INTEL BASED PC. IT will not work on AMD or anything else, but it does work on Intel. Becuase I got a new computer recently, I no longer use my Acer Aspire laptop as my primary computer. So, I decided to install Mac OS X Leopard on it. What would you consider safer? Running with scissors, or running LimeWire on your computer? I would argue that it is far safer to run with scissors, at least safer for the computer anyway. You always run the risk of getting viruses, spyware, malware, Trojans etc… when running any illegal download, whether it be on LimeWire or some other form of torrent. If you’re like me, you don’t run antivirus 24/7 or all the time while your computer is on. Well, you may call me crazy, but I’m not. I simply know where to download from and where not to download from, and what websites can be trusted and what websites cannot be trusted. But what if you download an EXE file that may contain a virus, but you’re not sure? Well you may want to take a look at www.virustotal.com

So, to put it to the test, I upload a setup file of VNC free client edition. 3 of the antivirus programs picked it up as “RemoteAdmin” which simply means it would allow someone to access my computer. This is, of course, what VNC is designed to do anyway.

This can be very helpful, if you ever have any doubt about a program you downloaded. Don’t just run it by your 1 or 2 antivirus programs, run it through 36 of them at www.virustotal.com
